My son Told me : Walk Mom!

December 5, 2024

My son always comes home full of insights and advice that enhance my daily life. One piece of advice he passionately shared was about the benefits of walking. “Mama, walking is a very important and effortless exercise you can add into your daily routine,” he explained. He suggested walking on the treadmill at the gym during our hot and humid weather or enjoying a stroll outside alone or with friends when the weather cools down.

He recommended aiming for at least 10,000 steps daily, which is roughly equivalent to 5 miles or 8 kilometers. Walking, he explained, not only improves heart health and reduces the risk of stroke but also helps maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat. Additionally, it enhances blood circulation, boosts muscle power and endurance, and offers significant mental health benefits. Walking can clear your thoughts, improve your mood and sleep—especially beneficial for women above forty experiencing pre-menopause symptoms like insomnia. It also helps reduce depression, eases the day’s stress, and enhances focus, which is much needed these days.

For women over forty, regular walking becomes even more crucial. It helps combat the metabolic slowdown that often occurs at this age, aids in managing hormonal changes, and strengthens bones to counteract the onset of osteoporosis.

Since making walking a habit in my lifestyle, I’ve become happier and healthier. Now you see why I am so keen to listen to my son’s advice.
