A day out with friends is always special—you forget all about responsibilities, laugh, and enjoy the moment. In the whirlwind of life, I found my craziest friends, and together, we’re crafting some hilarious stories. Today, my girlfriends and I are setting off on an adventure to explore Bahrain—the country I’m lucky enough to live in, mostly because I met these fantastic humans who match my level of crazy.
Since we’re all new here and thirsting for adventure, we explored Bahrain one day a week. Fun fact: Bahrain is a tiny island in the Gulf, just 48 km long from north to south and 16 km at its widest point from east to west. Why am I sharing this geography lesson? You’ll understand soon enough.
So, the three of us piled into the car, aiming for the island’s far side to check out some local landmarks, popular restaurants, street markets, and a bit of history. But here’s the thing: to enjoy all this, we need good weather because Bahrain can be hot, and we finally had the perfect day for outdoor adventures.
Now, each of us had a role. One friend volunteered to drive and show off her new car, but she remembered she’d forgotten her glasses just as we hit the road. Great start, right? There we were, embarking on an island-wide tour with a half-blind driver. Forget historical landmarks—we were praying to make it out alive!
Then there was our DJ friend, in charge of the tunes. She was impossibly picky, shooting down every song suggestion like a personal offense. When she finally found a song she liked, she repeated it for what felt like forever. Meanwhile, the car was a dance party on wheels, with a driver who couldn’t see straight.
And me? I was the navigator—directing our course using my phone’s map. The only problem? I don’t know my left from my right. Yep, I got us driving in circles, exiting the highway only to re-enter the same road, seeing the same scenery, all while the music blared and laughter filled the car. People outside definitely knew we were lost, but did we care? Not.

Somehow, we ended up in the most random places—narrow roads in a giant SUV, tiny villages no one had ever heard of—and managed to drive the entire 48 km of Bahrain in two hours without reaching our destination. Starving and exhausted, we gave up and returned to the familiar comfort of our favorite local restaurant for breakfast. A perfect end to our “adventure.”
Did we learn our lesson? Of course not! The very next week, we went on another misadventure—with me again as the navigator. Some things never change.
To my squad—you make life infinitely more fun. Cheers to the unforgettable moments and to more crazy adventures ahead!
