Every Step is Forword!

Perimenopause is as much a mental shift as it is a physical change. If we think nothing we do will help, we limit our ability to feel better. I’ve learned to honor the natural changes in my body, but respecting them doesn’t mean giving in to decline. Our minds have the power to steer our bodies towards strength, health, and resilience.

This phase requires understanding what our bodies truly need, nourishing them properly, and staying dedicated to our physical and mental health. Perimenopause isn’t a conclusion; it’s a time to adapt, learn, and care for ourselves more thoughtfully than ever.

For some women, perimenopause involves only minor disruptions, a few mood swings, occasional hot flashes, and perhaps some supplements to manage symptoms. The changes are steady but subtle, hardly noticeable in everyday life.

For others, it’s an entirely different experience. Symptoms can be severe: bone aches preventing sleep, persistent headaches or migraines that cause panic attacks during the night, nausea, dizziness, and a heaviness that can come from just drinking water. It’s a reminder that everyone’s journey through this phase is unique, so generic advice isn’t practical.

What we can do is support each other by reminding each other that nothing is impossible and that resilience remains reachable, even when the obstacles seem too great.

I got this reminder from my sister-in-law, Maysam. After a long stretch without talking, I called her and asked, “Hey, dear, how do we survive this freakin’ stage?” She replied instantly: “It’s not an easy journey, but it’s not impossible.” She then sent me a photo of herself at the gym, radiant, strong, and in her early fifties. At that moment, I knew I had reached out to the right person.

She reminded me of a truth we all carry but often overlook: we have the power to choose how we confront this stage. That conversation left me determined to remain strong regardless of the pain or the shadows of depression. Before ending the call, she advised, “Look, dear, it will be easier if you stay positive. Approaching this stage with negativity will make your life a living hell.” Her words proved true.

How do we remain optimistic?

– By consciously selecting where to focus our attention.

– Feed your body with what it genuinely requires.

– Engage in activities that strengthen you.

– Keep the company of those who encourage and uplift you.

– Learn about the changes you’re experiencing instead of fearing them.

Most importantly, tell yourself every day that this phase isn’t meant to break you, but to reveal just how resilient you truly are.
